Registrations are now available for the 2024 academic year at Walter Sisulu University. Both new and returning students can now register for the upcoming academic year at WSU.
Registration is conducted online, allowing students to register conveniently from any location. Students need to complete their registration to participate in lectures and obtain student cards while on campus.
Qualification Requirements
According to the Government Gazette dated 26 November 2009, WSU welcomes applications from aspiring students who possess a National Certificate (Vocational-Level 4) and are interested in enrolling in Higher Certificate, Diploma, or Degree programs.
The minimum criteria for admission to WSU with an NVC Level 4 are outlined below:
Higher Certificate
- Must adhere to NC (V) Level 4 statutory regulations.
- Achieve a minimum of 40% in either home Language or First Additional Language, with one being the Language of Teaching and Learning (LOTL).
- Attain at least 50% in either Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy.
- Obtain a minimum of 40% in Life Orientation.
- Secure a minimum of 50% in the remaining four vocational subjects.
- Provide a record of evidence for any failed subjects.
Diploma Requirements
Diploma requirements include meeting NC(V) Level 4 statutory requirements,
achieving 50% in three fundamental subjects with LOTL,
and attaining 60% in three compulsory vocational subjects.
Bachelor’s Degree requirements
Bachelor’s Degree requirements entail meeting NC(V) Level 4 statutory requirements,
obtaining 60% in three fundamental subjects with LOTL,
and securing 70% in three compulsory vocational subjects.
General admission requirements
The minimum entry requirements for university programs, as stated in the Higher Education Act No 101 of 1997 (amended in May 2008), are as follows:
- 1. For higher certificate, diploma, and Bachelor’s Degree programs, a National Senior Certificate (NSC) is required.
- 2. This policy applies to all higher education institutions starting from January 2009.
- 3. The policy outlines the minimum admission requirements for higher education at the NSC level.
- 4. However, having an NSC does not guarantee admission to any program of study in higher education.
- 5. Within the framework of this policy, WSU has the authority to establish specific admission requirements as a higher education institution.

Walter Sisulu University Registration Closing
At Walter Sisulu University, the closing dates for Health Science Programmes are set for 30 September, whereas the closing dates for all other programs are scheduled for 31 October.
