GCRA Bursary Application and Online Registration in South Africa

The Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) Bursary is currently accepting applications! As a division of the Gauteng Department of Education, which falls under the South African government, the GCRA plays a crucial role in fostering skill development within the province. Through the facilitation and coordination of bursaries, internships, learnerships, and career guidance programs, the GCRA aims to enhance the skills of students in Gauteng.

Eligibility Criteria for Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) –

  •  Must be a citizen of South Africa
  •  Must be a resident of the Gauteng province
  •  Must be aged between 18 to 35 at the time of application
  •  Must have completed Matriculation
  •  Undergraduate students must be enrolled or have applied for enrollment at a registered and accredited PSET institution
  •  Postgraduate students must be enrolled or have applied for enrollment at a higher learning tertiary institution for a postgraduate qualification
  •  Must possess a strong academic background

 Preference will be given to applicants who:

  •  Were top achievers at their school in Gauteng
  •  Rank among the top three learners in no-fee paying schools in Gauteng
  •  Rank among the top three learners in LSEN government schools in Gauteng
  •  Meeting the above criteria does not guarantee selection, as only those who meet the specified preferences will be automatically chosen.

What does the Bursary Cover?

 The bursary contract will cover the expenses listed below:

  •    Registration fees
  •    Tuition fees
  •    Accommodation cost
  •    Books
  •    Laptop

 Students residing in residence will receive a maximum amount of R 65,000.

 Students residing off-campus or in private accommodation will receive a maximum of R 47,000.

 The final amount each bursar will receive will be calculated by GCRA.

 Shortlisted candidates will receive a notification regarding their selection within 3 to 4 weeks of the closing date.

 If you have not received any email or phone call by then, please consider your application to be unsuccessful.

GCRA Bursary Application Required Documents –

  • A certified South African ID document copy is mandatory.
  • Evidence of residency in Gauteng (e.g. water and electricity bill, ward councilor letter) is required.
  • A certified Matric certificate or statement of results copy is needed.
  • Academic record copy is necessary for continuing undergraduate or postgraduate students.
  • Proof of registration or acceptance letter from the chosen institution (official letterhead) is mandatory.
  • A motivational letter, a maximum of 2 pages, explaining why the bursary should be awarded to you is essential.

  8. Veteran Discretion – If you are the child of a Military Veteran.
  9. Financial Assistance – If you have financial resources but still need help.
  10. Top-ups – If you already have a bursary but need additional funds.
